From the Workshop to the Field — Tuschemy’s Internal Soccer League
Sometimes the best ideas come from unexpected places. A Tuschemy workshop exploring the themes of self-awareness, communication and teamwork — asking employees “Who am I?” and “Who are we?” — sparked something nobody had planned for: an internal Factory Staff soccer league that is quietly transforming relationships on the shopfloor.
Production and Operations Supervisors Lunga and Romeo saw the energy the workshops generated and recognised an opportunity. Soccer, they felt, was the perfect way to keep building those same values — communication, respect, cooperation and unity — outside the workplace environment. Once a month, teams take to the field at Young Bafana Stadium, and the results go well beyond the scoreboard.
Employees who previously had little interaction are now building stronger relationships and communicating more effectively — both on the field and back at work. The league has encouraged teamwork, strengthened interpersonal relationships, improved communication and created a genuine sense of unity and belonging among the factory team.
As Lunga and Romeo have observed, the positive influence on workplace relationships has been noticeable. A team that plays together works better together — and a healthier, more connected team makes for a better working environment all round.
The league is still growing, with hopes of expanding in future and potentially involving other factories in the surrounding area.
Because at Tuschemy, great chemistry happens on and off the clock.
