The Application

During a recent internal waterside inspection of a firetube boiler manufactured in 2016, the findings spoke for themselves: zero hard scale, zero active pitting, and textbook metal passivation — after a full decade of continuous service.

This result was achieved using two specialised NSF-certified (Food-Safe) products, dosed separately using dedicated dosing pumps, and monitored daily by the plant operators and verified monthly by the Tuschemy sales team.

The Products

Steamclear 100
A neutral pH sulphite oxygen scavenger formulation containing an integrated alkalinity builder. It rapidly removes dissolved oxygen from feedwater to prevent severe pitting corrosion, while increasing pH to aid product mixing and optimise system chemistry.

Steamclear 250
An advanced multi-functional scale inhibitor combining sequestering and chelating agents, sludge dispersants, alkalinity builders, and scale-inhibition polymers. It prevents hard mineral scale, conditions precipitates into a loose sludge, and functions effectively over time to clean and remove existing deposits.

Inhibitor dosing was done continuously during operation using proportional control, ensuring consistent and accurate treatment at all times.

The Results

The quality of the feedwater supplying the boiler was checked daily for potential impurities such as hardness that could lead to scaling. Monthly site visits by the Tuschemy sales team verified and monitored results throughout.

The annual three-year internal inspection confirmed that Steamclear 100 & 250 is working exactly as designed:

100% Textbook Passivation — a uniform, dark magnetite protective oxide layer across all interior steel surfaces.

100% Non-Adherent Sludge — any precipitated calcium and magnesium formed a soft, fluffy dusting on the upper tube surfaces, easily wiped off by hand — proving the polymer dispersant programme is working as designed.

100% Maximum Heat Transfer — clean tube surfaces mean no heat insulation, maintaining optimal fuel efficiency and extending asset life.

The Verdict

These results are commendable and attributed to three things working in harmony: optimal products, diligent and well-trained operators, and the knowledge and support of the Tuschemy sales team.
